I am unable to find a House-Senate Resolution for National Literacy Day since the year 2000. Further, I haven't been able to find a Presidential Proclamation from our current President. Anyone else found one?
This commemorative is merely symbolic, but it does force our federal policy-makers to acknowledge the importance of adult literacy, even if only in passing. Have we become complacent and let our visibility erode?
This might be a good time for a reality check ... When was the last time YOU contacted the offices of your two Senators and Congressperson -- about anything literacy-related?
This isn't a rhetorical question. I know Nancy Hansen speaks with folks in Sen. Daschle's office fairly often. Let's take a moment to do an inventory here. If you would, post to the list (a) who you last spoke with (which office -- and name of the staffer, if you can), (b) when it was, (c) what was the topic, and (d) what feedback you received.
Which state has touched base with Congressional policy-makers the most? Will it be Massachusetts, Ohio, or ...
