[NLA] Disucssion: NIFL Board

Yesterday afternoon, I spoke to Marty Finsterbusch, VALUE's Executive
Director about VALUE's recommendation of an adult learner or former adult
learner for the NIFL Advisory Board. Marty indicated that a recommendation
from VALUE was requested during the 12/13 quarterly meeting of the National
Coalition for Literacy (NCL).

Immediately following that meeting, VALUE contacted Ruth Ann Miner, the
Governor of Delaware. She responded that increased duties with the National
Governors' Association would prevent her from being considered. VALUE then
decided to recommend Ed Castor to the Administration and the NCL. Ed is Vice
Chairperson of the Indiana Literacy Foundation. He was recognized by
President GHW Bush as his "9th Point of Light."

Unfortunately, as the saying goes, this recommendation came a day late and a
dollar short.
