I was going to send Ron a personal email because I thought about all
those interesting conversations we have had after a day of meetings and
we could finally indulge in an adult beverage to recover a bit. But then
I decided to go public and thank him on the NLA list for the good works
he has undertaken for the field in his years at the Division of Adult
Education and Literacy.

Though his work on bringing the National Reporting System was guaranteed
to bring forth many opposing points of view, including my own, he
nevertheless has chaperoned the NRS along and has taken actions to
create a management and accounting system for the Adult Education and
Literacy System of the United States that I believe will one day
contribute to forging a higher quality, widely valued, public education
system for adults.

Change is always possible, though generally difficult, yet Ron has been
exemplary in attending to the wishes, wants, information and hopes from
the field, including adult learners, and different Executive branch
administrations, and the Congress and with good nature he has forged the
changes that he felt could be accomplished in a timely manner with the
resources available.

Thanks, Ron, for all your good works, your positive outlook, good humor
and solid dedication to the field of adult education. And best wishes
for a lot more good work in your new position.
