Jay,
In conclusion to your NLA message about the lack of enthusiasm and "hoopla"
about the increased adult ed funding, you wrote "just your thoughts":
> What we need to do better is to make a stronger case for lifelong
> learning...Someone has already suggested it on this list...Adult education
> needs to be an equal partner with k-12. and other education levels. It
ought
> not just be viewed as a remedial program.>
A comment: What *I* feel we *also* need to do is to get adult *literacy* as
an "equal partner" with "adult education"! There seems to be a huge gap in
the funding of the skill development programs for GED-prep students and the
literacy student who is in need of very beginning reading, writing and
spelling skills. Maybe you would hear more literacy providers like myself
at least send forth a "Hip! Hip! Hurray!!" for the increase .... if we were
equal enough partners that we would be able to "apply for" those (and GET!)
increased federal funds at the state level. Just my thoughts, too. Nancy
Hansen
