[NLA] Legislative victory for adult literacy

Dear Colleagues:
I am surprised that I have heard very little celebration on the NLA list 
about our recent victory in the appropriations process.  The U.S. Congress 
approved a $35 million increase in funding for adult education, as reported 
by Christy Gullion and others.
Were we distracted by the holidays?  The recession?  War in Afghanistan?  I 
still think a 6.5% increase in basic grants to states for adult education is 
a major step forward.  We should be proud of the advocacy effort that we 
mounted as a field.  Many thanks to all of you who worked to make this 
increase possible.
