  Many communities in the southwest do not have libraries at all, much less libraries with computers and Internet. Communities are many miles apart, library systems are minimally funded, and even the larger cities with a library have little public transportation. 


  I agree with Kathleen - computers in libaries are not a good substitute for one at home or at a community computer center.  Almost every week I visit the public library near where I work.  It is located in Brookline, Mass., which is a wealthy town next to Boston.  There are about six to eight computers available and they are always occupied with people waiting to use them.  Clearly, the need for access is great even in affluent communities.
