Colleagues, FYI - two days ago I sent the following nomination for
the NIFL board. I did so by e-mail (and fax) because I was advised
that letters take too long on urgent topics (because of the testing
of all D.C. mail for anthrax). Gail S

>Dear Mr. Paige:
>
>Along with the rest of the adult literacy field, I am deeply
>concerned about the nomination of school reading specialists for all
>10 openings on the board of the National Institute for Literacy --
>to the exclusion of any professionals who have strong backgrounds in
>adult education and literacy.
>
>I am therefore pleased to submit for consideration the name of one
>individual, Robert Wedgeworth. He would be a tremendous asset to
>the NIFL board and be well able to represent the interests and
>concerns of adult literacy and ABE. As reflected in his resume (at
>http://www.laubach.org/AboutUs/SStaff.html ), Mr. Wedgeworth has a
>rich and varied experience in adult education, higher education, and
>the American library system.
>
>I came to know Bob years ago as the force behind creation of the
>National Coalition for Literacy, the Advertising Council Campaign
>for Adult Literacy, and the American Library Association's role in
>these and related initiatives. His entire career has been devoted
>to the advancement of learning and knowledge and to increasing
>access to education.
>
>I sincerely hope that consideration can be given to Mr. Wedgeworth.
>
>Respectfully,
