Thanks for sharing this with us. I found the background categories interesting-especially this one: ''Most nominees have a background in promoting adult literacy." I wonder what is meant by promoting adult literacy? That is a very general phrase. The reason why I am focusing on this one, is because one of the people cited for having this background, does not have adult literacy background. In fact, recently I communicated with this individual about the nominations and the person told me that when s/he/ was approached, s/he was not approached as an adult literacy expert. So you can imagine my surprise when I saw this person's name as having background in promoting adult literacy. But then I thought about it some more and realized that yes, this individual has promoted adult literacy in a very broad and general sense. S/he will mention the need for adult literacy instruction and research in talks. Therefore, compared to many, this person does promote adult literacy, but the promotion is in passing and not the primary or even the secondary focus.
So, this leads to my next question. Do we know how well educated the committee that will vote on the nominees are concerning the needs and issues of adult learners? Do we need to include some brief educational information in our letters to them?
