[NLA] basal reading texts - phonics

Colleagues, A professional colleague and friend here in NYC sent me 
this note and said that I could pass it around if I wanted to:


"As a former employee of educational publishers and friend of many 
still engaged in that business, I can assure you that McGraw-Hill 
reacts to whatever the market wants when it publishes/revises it's 
basal reading programs. I have a feeling that it has swung away from 
whole language and back toward phonics by now. But when it's time to 
do a new edition, the staff will study the calls for adoption from 
Texas and California and try to produce a program that exactly 
matches the requirements of each state."
