NLA Colleagues,
When Kathleen Bombach recently posted to the NLA list an article from
The Nation magazine it was prefaced with:
"If you like this article, please consider subscribing to The Nation at special discounted rates. You can order online https://ssl.thenation.com or call our toll-free number at 1-800-333-8536.
This is a long article from The Nation on Bush's 'scientific' approach to reading and the National Reading Panel. It is very interesting reading itself.
Kathleen Bombach"
The NLA list does not have a policy specifically about posting articles. In the past I have always approved and posted messages with links to articles. Attachments with articles (or anything else) are not possible. Once I included an article, myself, within the text of a message to the NLA list, and was cautioned by an NLA subscriber who is an editor that this was not legal. Since then I have learned from another list moderator that some publications allow posting an article if information is provided on how to subscribe to the publication. I presumed that when Kathleen posted the Nation article that she was following their policy, although I did not check on this.
It is time that the NLA list had a policy on whether or not and if so how articles should be posted. I welcome messages to me, not the list, at <DJRosen at theworld.com> with references to the legality on posting of articles. Then, when I am better informed, I will post a message to the list with a recommended policy on this.
