====================================

The National Coalition for Literacy's (NCL) members unanimously
approved moving forward to incorporate as a 501(c)(3) at the quarterly
meeting held on November 14. Members are working on the plan to
achieve this over the next 4-5 months. Once this status is achieved,
the NCL will operate financially and otherwise in its own name with a
board of directors, a program that will include national advocacy and
public policy development, and an expanded membership for whom some
services will be provided. Although it will take time to put things
into place, I'm sure you'll agree that this a positive development for
the field. In the meantime, anyone who wants to contribute to the NCL
to help move things along (for all our sakes), is invited to do so.
Checks go to the National Coalition for Literacy, c/o American Library
Association/Attn: Dale Lipschultz; 50 East Huron Street; Chicago, IL
60611-2795. Donations will be tax deductible and should be sent ATTN:
Dale Lipschultz.

Best,

Founding Board
Marsha Tait, ProLiteracy/Coalition Chair
Noreen Lopez, PBS
Dale Lipschultz, American Library Association
Cristine Smith, NCSALL
Edith Gower, NAULC
Robbin Sorensen, United Way of America
