At President Bush's national economic forum this week education policies
for a stronger economy via a skilled workforce was discussed and included
four items:

1. standards and accountability for improving the education system

2. Public/private partnerships -business, schools, educators, community
groups etc.

3. Pockets of excellence: identify them and disseminate them

4. Lifelong learning: mentioned were:
four year colleges,
two year colleges,
job training and retraining programs

Do you notice anything missing? Nothing was said about the
Adult Education and Literacy System of the United States of America, the
nation's third branch of publicy funded education.

Whatever else advocacy might include, we sure could use
some public awareness education about the AELS!
