To the list,
Some of the recent discussion on the list has focused on the limits that
NRS seems to impose on adult education programs at the local level. The
Right Question Project newsletter below reminded me that teaching
self-advocacy skills for individuals and groups can be an integral part of
the curriculum for adult learners in any program even those utilizing NRS.
Here in New Hampshire we have had an ongoing relationship with the Right
Question Project for the past 5 years. The teaching of self advocacy skills
has become an important part of many centers and classrooms within our
system. Anyone adult educator interested in helping adults become better
advocates for themselves and their children should check out the services of
the Right Question Project. Art Ellison, New Hampshire Department of
Education.

Welcome to "The RQP e-News"
We are happy to announce the launching of The RQP e-NEWS, a
periodic publication of The Right Question Project. The e-News is
designed to provide updates about our activities, promote the use
of our educational strategy, share examples of success, and
support practitioners working in the field.
You are receiving this first edition of the e-NEWS because you
have shared your email address with us. Please be sure to click
on the "change profile" link at the very bottom of this message
to update your profile so that we can best serve your particular
interests. When you update your profile you also can choose
whether to continue to receive the e-NEWS in straight TEXT format
(the format you probably have received) or HTML format. (If your
e-mail program supports it, HTML format will provide wonderful
color and graphic highlights to your e-NEWS message.)
RQP is currently undergoing an expansion of its mission and
program. We look forward to renewing our connections this
coming year with many of our long-standing friends from the
numerous organizations with whom we have worked and from whom we have
learned so much during the past decade. We also look forward to making new
connections throughout North America and elsewhere as our work begins to
take us into new fields and new geographic regions.
We are very excited about the feedback we continually receive
from practitioners of our program. We are always inspired by the
powerful stories we hear from individuals, organizations and
agencies that have found ways to share RQP successfully. We look forward to
sharing some of those stories with you here and
through our new Discusssion Forum on our web site (more about
that below).
We hope you will communicate with us through email and our new
Discussion Forum and let us know how we might best support you as you
continue to integrate the RQP educational strategy into the work that you
do.
We are currently engaged in a new broad-based fund-raising
campaign to develop the resources to enable us to share our work
more widely than ever before. We would welcome your personal or
organizational support at any level as a FOUNDING FRIEND of RQP.
Tax-deductible contributions can be made on-line (through a link on our
website) or through regular mail. We would also welcome your help in making
RQP known to people who you think may have an interest in what we do. Thanks
very much !
And thanks for being part of the growing RQP family.
DAN ROTHSTEIN & LUZ SANTANA,
Co-Directors

Stories from the Field
In each issue of the e-NEWS we will highlight stories which
describe the wonderful ways that people are using our methods in
a variety of contexts. Also check the "Success Stories" topic on
our Discussion Forum for links to other organizations and
newsletters reporting on our work, or to post something yourself.
We are pleased to begin this feature with "Pathways to Parent
Leadership: The RQP Tools for Advocacy" which highlights the use
of RQP by the Center for Collaborative Planning in Sacramento,
California.
This article originally appeared in the July-August 2002 issue of
the Children's Advocate, published by Action Alliance for
Children in Oakland, California.

Training Teams Available for On-Site Consultations
We are currently arranging consultations with agencies and
organizations throughout North America interested in on-site
training in our most recent work. The RQP "Question Formulation
Technique" and "Framework for Accountable Decision-Making," the basis of our
Educational Strategy, provide a simple, powerful
method for transforming people's ability to think and act on
their own behalf. Our educational strategy has proven to be
highly effective in developing the skills of low and moderate
income people to advocate for themselves in their encounters with
programs, services and institutions of all kinds.
Please contact Luz Santana if you would like to discuss
arrangements for a training with your organization.

our training materials and methods.

let us know what you are doing with the educational strategy,
share your recent or not-so-recent "success stories," ask a
