The issues that Eileen outlined are, indeed, critical to any program for
young folks. I would add to this - build a supportive community among the
group (ala Youth Build, CityYear, etc.), but with explicit time and safe
space for females (and males) to explore these issues alone with strong women
(men) role-models. Gender roles and expectations, violence toward women,
respect across ages, family concerns, so many critical issues to struggle
with across cultures. Don't skimp on resources for counselors.

<< Any effort to increase educational attainment for LEP and/or at-risk youth
needs to address (or rather, help them address) their unique
issues--questions of identity, their place in the world, making a future for
themselves where no one they know has gone before. I'd encourage everyone to
