Jumping in here--I have no trouble with the false consciousness thesis, Fanon 
uses it re colonization (correct me if I'm wrong, please).  It is an 
extremely useful idea, Gilligan also takes hold of it.

For a really good description of a Freirian classroom in our era (but not in 
our country) read Purcell-Gates book "Now we Read, We See, We Speak," and be 
inspired.  Also look at her Freirian inspired NCSALL research project, and 
Degener's description of it in 2nd (I believe) NCSALL volume--The Annual 
Review of Adult Learning and Literacy.  

Deweyian influence seen in ABE, adult lit classrooms where connections are 
made to local power structures, asking questions, drawing conclusions, etc.  
See "Together We Bloom."  Someone else will have the cites on this.
