NLA Colleagues,
NIFL-Family List Moderator, Nancy Sledd, asked that the following
information be posted.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay, folks, we have had some great discussions on the NIFL-Family list in
the past with Dr. Meta Potts, Allan Lopatin and Tony Peyton, Helmer Duverge,
Dr. Jeri Levesque, Jennifer Cromley, and Jane Meyer to name a few. And, we
have another fantastic one lined up for you November 12-21. Dr. Doug Powell
with Parenting Education at Purdue University and Diane D'Angelo with RMC
Research Corporation will lead us in a discussion using the USDOE
publication they wrote as a foundation to the discussion: Guide to
Improving Parenting Education in Even Start Family Literacy Programs.
We all know the national domestic focus is on children reading and their
education, and all of us in family literacy also know that the best way to
have children reading is having a literacy rich environment in the home with
parents supporting the literacy development. In this book by Doug and
Diane, a framework is provided and suggestions for strengthening the quality
and impact of parenting education (or Parent Time) services.
You will want to get your copy of this book prior to the discussion (it is
free!). Again, the name of the publication is: Guide to Improving
Parenting Education in Even Start Family Literacy Programs. Here are
several ways you may do that:
Write:

To request a copy in alternative formats, such as Braille, large print,
audiotape or computer diskette, contact the Department's Alternate Format
Center at 202-205-8113.
If you want to pass this e-mail along to other people you think may be
interested, here is how they may subscribe to this listserv discussion for
family literacy:
Go to www.nifl.gov/lincs/discussions and click on the icon to the left that
says "subscribe." At that location, you may subscribe to any/all the
NIFL-sponsored list discussions you would like. The one for family literacy
is called "Family." Be sure to check that box. If you have any trouble
subscribing, please contact me, Nancy Sledd, directly, and I will show you
how to do this.
