[NLA] Questions/Discussion: How is NRS follow-up going?]

NLA Colleagues,

An adult education program administrator wrote me recently, in reply to
my request for information about practitioners' views of the NRS follow-up:

"We had a 44% response [to our NRS-required follow-up] from exiting
students. The process entailed many hours of calling and sometimes
gaining information from relatives or even
seeing students "on the street." Living in a small community does have
its advantage. However, 44% is still below the expected 50%. Many of
the students we attempted to contact had disconnected phones or were no
longer at that number.

In addition, I am aware of programs that did not allow students to
choose employment as a goal so that they would not have to do the
surveys. So is our data really accurate or are we just playing the game?"

I would like to hear from others, too. Send your response to the NLA
list, or privately to me.
