NLA Colleagues,
As you are thinking about the NLA list, here is some information which may
give you a fuller picture of its activity in 2000.
Currently there are 623 subscribers.
In the year 2000:
1. 1962 messages were posted (5/day, 38/week) The NLA is the most
active of the electronic lists archived on the NIFL server. With the
exception of NIFL-ESL (1489 messages last year) all the other lists had
fewer than half the number of messages posted to the NLA. For some
people the NLA may be too active, with too many messages to read each
week. For others it may be the right level of activity. It will be
interesting to see what subscribers have to say about this in the
NLA list evaluation.
2. 290 subscribers (47%) posted at least one message. Compared with
other electronic lists, this is a very high level of activity.
3. 112 subscribers (18%) posted more than 2 messages.
4. 36 subscribers (6%) posted ten or more messages.
Of these, at least 10 are -- or have recently been -- practitioners at
the program level. Others are adult learners, graduate students, state
directors of adult education, instructors or profesors in higher
education, people who work in staff development, researchers, NIFL staff,
USDOE staff, lobbyists, and state or national level volunteer program and
administrators. (There are 5 of the 36 whose roles I do not know.)
5. At least 8 subscribers are adult learners. (There may be
more -- subscribers do not routinely define their roles -- but I
personally know at least eight who are or have been adult learners/new
readers.)
