I am sorry I missed the first question about this but I want to respond to
just one part of Kathleen's message that indicates that students with
learning disabilities are "supposed to be given more time" for exams.
While additional time is one of the most frequent accommodations recommended
for persons with learning disabilities, it is not a generic accommodation,
and it is not always appropriate. Some students will not benefit from extra
time.
Individual needs must be determined through consultation with the
psychologist who diagnoses the learning disability and writes the report and
the school district or adult education program. If a student is receiving
appropriate accommodations and is using the prescribed assistive technology,
the chances for success will increase.
