Certification of adult educators is a means to create positions in higher
education for teachers of adult education. At about $600 a course, many would
find it unfeasible to even consider such a degree program. Adult education is
largely a part-time profession, even in densely populated markets like Chicago.
It will be hard to find individuals that are willing to invest thousands for a
12 hour a week job.
Standards should be a local concern. Ours is a BS degree and related
experience in education or training.
Certification will exclude from the profession those with years of experience
in private industry who will make better educators than recent philosophy
majors who can't find a job.
