NLA Discussion: Certification of adult ed instructors

Debbie Yoho mentioned that her state also provided an adult diploma track. So 
do we in North Carolina. The point I'd like to make is that our primary adult 
high school instructor - who teaches literally every subject quite well - has 
a master's degree but not K-12 certification. What he DOES have is a gift for 
the young people. He challenges them, respects them, and expects the best. 
Many many young people have said upon graduation that he was their finest 
teacher ever and had they had more like him...well, you know the rest. I 
suspect most of the folks on this list can tick off the names of outstanding 
ABE and GED instructors who came from unlikely places and excelled in 
literacy education.  I personally have more concern for the qualifications of 
folks teaching beginning reading skills. Just tossing in my thoughts here and 
being publicly appreciative of our instructors!
