NLA Colleagues,
In the Fall 1997 issue of The Journal of Volunteer Administration
is an article entitled "An Internet Dialogue: Literacy, Volunteers
and the President's Summit." It is based on a dialogue which took
place on the NLA list from April 30 to May 5, 1997, and it includes
writings of participants Paul Clay, Marie Cora, Laureen Fredella,
Paul Jurmo, Andres Muro, Kevin Smith, and Billy Upson.
I would like to commend Editor-in-Chief, Marjorie M. Bhavnani,
and her colleagues for publishing this dynamic and thoughtful
dialogue, for taking the time to request the agreement of the
authors, and for placing the discussion properly in context.
I think this is an excellent example of a form of article --
the edited Internet dialogue -- which we need more of. It can make
the thoughtful contributions of listserv participants available to
an audience which does not use this technology. And I find it
refreshing to re-read an on-screen dialogue I saw here over several
days, in one convenient, eye-pleasing article in hard copy.
NLA subscribers who edit newsletters and journals: I hope we will
see more articles like this.
