Thanks Fran, for updating everyone on campaign information! In September,
the National Institute for Literacy will be releasing a Literacy and
Policy Public Service Message.
The next [second] phase of our three phase campaign will be especially
interesting and relevant to folks on this list. The upcoming PSAs for TV,
radio, and print will tie policy into "Whole New World" of literacy. The
campaign folder from the first phase of the campaign has been updated to
include a new fact sheet on library literacy, as well as a fabulous
handout on "Policy Success Stories" - featuring what has been going on
at the local level.
These new information kits will be available at the NIFL Hotline and
Clearinghouse: 1-800-228-8813. [TDD/TTY number is: 1-800-552-9097].
If you're interested in assisting place PSAs with the message that
literacy is a solution to important policy issues, contact your state
coordinator [you can find this information at
http://novel.nifl.gov/newworld/STATES.HTM
or by calling 202/632-1515], or contact the National Institute for
Literacy directly at 202/632-1515.

Reminder:
The National Institute for Literacy is in the midst of a large public
awareness campaign about literacy. Call 1-800-552-9097 for a copy of
the Literacy: It's a Whole New World information kit.
The kits include plenty of statistics on topics including
correctional education, English as a second language, learning
disabilities, workforce literacy, family literacy. literacy and
welfare, and the national delivery system.
I believe the Institute has a campaign event scheduled for September
8th but I do not have details on that.
