NLA Colleagues,
Paul Jurmo's message about news from New Jersey reminds me that one
of the purposes of the NLA list is to share public policy news from the
state level so that we may all learn from each other. How is your state
campaign for increased adult literacy funding going? Have you been able
to reach, work with and/or have an impact on your state and regional
Workforce Investment Boards (Human Investment Councils, Regional
Employment Boards or whatever they are called in your state)?
How is your statewide literacy coalition doing? Do you have one? Is it
growing? Are you starting one? Are you rejuvenating one? Do you need some
ideas from other states about how to help state coalitions thrive?
We have begun to hear from some states feeling the impact of the
"Personal Responsibility Act" on welfare recipients and immigrants. What
is the impact on adult literacy/basic education/ESOL students and programs
in your state?
Let's hear from _you_ about what's happening in adult literacy public
policy in your state.
