PART-TIME PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR: SABES (System for Adult Basic Education Support) (Lawrence, Riverwalk Campus) 18.75 hours per week. (MCCC/MTA Unit Position) Anticipated Start Date: October, 2011
Northeast SABES (System for Adult Basic Education Support) is a statewide professional development system, with 5 regional offices and a central resource center, that serves Adult Basic Education programs funded through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. SABES promotes high quality adult basic education services through training, support, and resources that improve the skills and knowledge of practitioners and strengthen programs. The Northeast Regional office of SABES resides at the Center for Adult Education Programs and Practitioners (CAEPP) at Northern Essex Community College’s Riverwalk Campus.
Develop, deliver, and/or coordinate staff and program development for select content and initiatives; Recruit ABE consultants and coordinate their work; Provide support to and collaborate with other SABES staff in planning, delivering and evaluating professional development activities, as needed; Provide technical assistance to ABE programs, as appropriate, according to expertise; Participate in statewide SABES workgroups, all-staff meetings, and other ABE conferences as necessary; Other duties as determined by the Director
A Bachelor’s Degree is required. Master's degree or experience within SABES preferred. Experience providing and/or coordinating professional development preferred. 5 years or more ABE/ESOL teaching experience and/or ABE program coordination or management experience required. Must have a broad understanding of key ABE issues, such as counseling and advising for Next Steps, student persistence, and learning disabilities. Experience with transitioning ABE students to college or work preferred. Must be familiar with DESE policies and the MA ABE System. Experience facilitating groups; strong communication, organization, presentation, and facilitation skills required. Must be able to travel in-state regularly, and have a sense of humor.
Salary: $22.99 per hour with pro-rated fringe benefits.
