This session will highlight the major tenets of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and clarify the rights and responsibilities of adult education programs as well as individuals with disabilities.  Participants will identify policies and procedures that can be used to provide equal access, program modifications, and reasonable accommodations in all aspects of their programs and services.  Actual case studies will be provided to assist participants in applying ADA concepts.  The application of Universal Design as an additional method of improving access to adult education programs will also be discussed.

As a result of this workshop participants will be able to:

*   identify the general requirements of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and processes to provide accommodations and program modifications for adults with disabilities

*   articulate the rights and responsibilities of adult education programs and adult students under the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and IDEA

*   identify aspects of Universal Design that can be incorporated in adult education to increase access to programs and services for persons with and without disabilities


*   complete the ADA checklist for ABE programs in accordance with the Massachusetts ADA standards

FROM THE WEST

Follow Route 290 East to Route 190 North (Exit 19)
Route 190 North to Exit 1 - Route 12 North
This exit puts you on West Boylston Street
>From West Boylston Street - go about 2 miles (past Norton Company, etc.)
Turn right into the college, go up the hill and bear left.
After the stop sign continue up the hill to student parking on the right.

FROM THE NORTH

Route 495 South to Route 290 West
                Route 290 West to Route 190 North (Exit 19)
                Route 190 North to Exit 1 - Route 12 North
                This exit puts you on West Boylston Street.
