Health & Literacy Partnerships
Sept. 2008 (Volume 9, Issue B)

It is not news that health and literacy are linked. What is news is the
growing number of vibrant partnerships being formed between health
providers and literacy providers. What is also news is that these
partnerships now reflect the view that health and literacy are everyon
e's problem: health providers, literacy providers, any adult who
struggles with navigating the health care system. These partnerships
take many forms. Some involve just two agencies, others bring together
many participants. This issue of Focus on Basics features articles about
these partnerships and others.

This issue and all back issues of Focus on Basics are available on the

The Change Agent Website Q&A

Where can I get classroom-ready, socially relevant, skill-building
lessons and activities for the adult education classroom?
At The Change Agent's website: www.nelrc.org/changeagent
<http://bme1.net/link/redirect.asp?g=0&c=253797&l=335609854&e=cbower@nec
c.mass.edu&url=http://www.nelrc.org/changeagent>

Are all of these materi als free?
Yes, all you have to do is fill out a simple form in order to get the
user name and password. You will then be prompted to make a sliding
scale donation of $0-20. If you can't pay, skip the donation and go
ahead and download the materials you need.

Why are you asking for money? Aren't most online materials free? Who
wants to bother with user names and passwords?
There are many reasons for this new approach: It is greener because it
reduces printing and transporting the magazine, and you have the option
of printing only the pages you will use. It helps sustain The Change
Agent because we are not an advertising-driven magazine and we don't
want to become one. We depend on your subscriptions! This approach
spreads the cost of the magazine among all readers - not just the paper
subscribers. And it still makes The Change Agent available for free to
those who can't afford to pay for it.

I have some thoughts (rants, complaints, kudos) about this new system.
Who do I share them with?
We welcome your feedback on our new approach to disseminating and
sustaining The Change Agent. Please contact the editor, Cynthia Peters,
