North Shore Community Action Programs, Inc.(NSCAP), is a non-profit, anti-poverty agency for more than 25 communities on the North Shore. Established in 1965 under the Economic Opportunity Act, NSCAP's mission is to help low-income people obtain the skills, education and knowledge to become economically self-sufficient, civicly engaged and to live with dignity and decency.
POSITION TITLE: Part Time, Workplace Education Program, ESOL Teacher
REPORTS TO: NSCAP Workplace Coordinator, beginning September 2, 2008
JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach assigned class(es); ESOL classes meet twice a week for two hours each
- Prepare (2 hrs./week/class) engaging, learner-centered lessons which relate to the worksite and are aligned with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Curriculum Frameworks for Adult Basic Education and ESOL
- Prepare lesson plans as required
- Attend a monthly Planning and Evaluation Team (PET) meeting
- Maintain weekly communication with Workplace Coordinator regarding records on student attendance and progress
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree; a Master's in Education preferred
- Minimum of 2 years ESOL teaching experience with adults
- Knowledge of SMARTT System is a plus
- Computer literacy with basic programs
- BEST PLUS and TABE certification a plus
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
