Asian American Civic Association-Part-Time Evening ESOLTeacher  

	 

	*       Teach two high intermediate ESOL classes,
Mondays/Wednesdays 5-8 PM and Tuesdays/Thursdays 6-9 PM , February.-June
and September-January.

	*       Work schedule is Monday-Thursday, on site at AACA 87
Tyler St. 5th fl. in Boston's Chinatown.  Fridays are used for prep.
Meal times are unpaid on your own.

	*       $19.50/hour which includes teaching, prep, occasional
meetings, testing/recruitment, etc. (approx. 23 total hours per week,
maximum of 46 hours per each 2-week pay period)

	 


	Teaching Responsibilities/Expectations


	 

	*       Provide classroom instruction in basic academic skills
of reading, writing, listening,  speaking and critical thinking using a
student-centered, participatory approach

	*       Teach from an established theme-based curriculum
integrating the four major language skills.  Update/revise curriculum as
needed. 

	*       Administer ongoing student assessments 

	*       Keep daily/monthly class attendance records,
start/finish all classes on time

	*       Communicate student needs, problems, classroom issues,
etc. to program director in timely fashion

	*       Participate in recruiting, testing, intake, interviewing
and placing of new students  (usually done during 3-4 week breaks
between class cycles).

	*       Evaluate classes with program director end of each cycle
and ongoing as needed

	*       Possess flexibility, ability to juggle multiple tasks,
adapt to change, be a committed team player

	 


	Program Accountability


	*       Assist with entering student data in agency database 

	*       Assist in grant writing, data analysis and writing of
program reports to AACA administration and English for New Bostonians,
the program funder (as needed)


	 


	Requirements


	*       Previous ESL/ABE teaching or tutoring experience with
adult immigrants

	*       Master's degree (preferred) in TESOL, Applied
Linguistics, Adult Education or a relevant field of study

	*       Curriculum/materials development preferred

	*       Familiarity with greater Boston immigrant communities a
plus

	 

	Start date: mid to late January, 2008
