ESL Teacher - Job Description 


Teaching


 

*         Teach one 2-hour class, Tuesdays  thru Fridays, 8:30 - 10:30
AM, year-round, for immigrant adults of all ages.  (Mondays are for
prep, meetings, staff development, etc.). Pay is $17/hour for 8 hours
teaching and 4 hours prep per week, plus 6 hours per month for
assessments and meetings.  This is for ESOL Level 1. Bilingual ability
in Chinese-English is required.

*         Survey students' expectations at the beginning of each new
cycle and develop appropriate curriculum

*         Work on curriculum development regularly (individually and
with members of team)

*        Administer regular assessments, including but not limited to a
mid-term exam, final exam, portfolio or class project

*         Make teacher's expectations clear to students at the beginning
of each new cycle

*         Help students understand the educational pathways and other
services available to them at AACA's Multi-Service Center

*         Involve students in civic participation and field trips
whenever possible

*        Prepare lesson materials for substitute teachers when you are
absent

 


Administration


 

*         Administrate/score placement tests before each new cycle

*         Assist with recruitment of new students for each cycle,
including sending written notices to accepted students

*         Keep student attendance records for each week and month of
class cycle

*         Enter student information as needed into agency database at
beginning and end of each cycle

*         Collect tuition from repeating students at the end of each
cycle

*         Attend regular team meetings and monthly all-staff meetings

*         Follow up by phone with students when they are absent for more
than 2 consecutive days

*         Order textbooks for your class before each new cycle

*         Prepare certificates at the end of each cycle for all students
completing your class

*         Write brief monthly report on class activities/issues and
submit to Director of Education (include accurate year-to-date data)
