The Asian American Civic Assn. is still seeking a full-time intermediate
ESOL teacher.  (Job description below).  A great opportunity in a
program with an excellent track record.  This position will not only
benefit immigrant adult learners but the field as a whole with another
teacher gaining meaningful, full-time employment.  Please help us spread

Teaching Responsibilities/Expectations


*       Teach two 2-hour intermediate ESOL classes, 8:30 - 10:30 AM and
11 AM - 

      1 PM, Tuesdays through Fridays, year-round. Paid prep time. 

      Work hours - Monday through Friday - 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, includes
one UNPAID lunch hour.  NOTE--Work demands often exceed 35 hours per
week.  

*       M.A. in TESOL, applied linguistics, adult education or related
area strongly preferred

*       MUST be committed to teach from an established
content-based/theme-based curriculum integrating the four major language
skills and critical thinking

*       MUST be high energy and show initiative to continuously
challenge students who often have college, skills training or better
jobs as their primary goals

*       Familiarity with Mass. Dept. of Education/ACLS program
requirements strongly preferred

*       Certification and experience in REEP administration & scoring
strongly preferred

*       Conduct ongoing student assessments (quizzes, essays,
presentations, portfolios, etc.)

*       Keep daily and monthly class attendance records

*       Communicate student needs, problems, classroom issues, etc. to
program counselor

*       Participate in recruiting, testing, intake, interviewing and
placing of new students   (usually done during 2-3 week breaks between
class cycles)

*       Be flexible, able to juggle multiple tasks, adapt to change and
take on new tasks as needed in a fast-paced environment

*       Oversee and sometimes input student data into SMARTT system and
agency database every month

*       Produce monthly report from agency database

*       Participate in regular team meetings (about every other week)
and monthly all-staff meeting

 

Salary Range:  $32,000 - $34,000/year

 

Company-paid benefits after 90-day probation period (60% health
insurance, vacation, paid holidays, sick time, long-term and short-term
disability,  403 (b) retirement plan) 

 

Start date:  Monday, November 5, 2007
