[Nesabes] FW: Petition Signatures Needed for Adult Literacy

Your help is needed.

       We must seize every opportunity to raise the visibility of adult
literacy to our future President, whoever he or she may be.

       VALUE, Inc. (Voice for Adult Literacy United for Education) is a
national not-for-profit organization governed and operated by current
and former students in adult basic education or English as a Second
Language programs in the United States. Founded in 1998 and incorporated
in 2001, it's mission is to strengthen adult literacy efforts in the USA
through learner involvement and leadership.

       The organization is founded on the belief that while providing
adult learners the opportunity to give back, their input helps literacy
programs become more effective. The envisioned result is that adult
learners will be involved as primary stakeholders and full partners in
every aspect of effective literacy program operations throughout the
country.

       This non-partisan petition simply asks all of the candidates
running for President to answer five questions about adult literacy
policy under their administration. Edwards and Obama have already
responded.


       VALUE tentatively plans to hand-deliver the petition to the
Washington DC offices of each of the candidates running for President
during the week of December 17. For this petition to be credible, the
field really needs to come up with several thousand signatures. That
would put the adult literacy field on candidates' radar screens! With
any less, our field looks weak and "ignore-able" to the next
administration.

       It would be appreciated if everyone would get signatures from
family, friends, colleagues, and adult learners.  Please pass the
petition on.
