FULL-TIME COORDINATOR/COUNSELOR (LITERACY SPECIALIST) - NECC
LAWRENCE/ASIAN CENTER PROGRAM: Adult Literacy and Transition Program
(Division of Instructional and Student Support). (MCCC/MTA UNIT
POSITION) Anticipated start date: March, 2007
The ESOL Coordinator/Counselor will oversee day-to-day management of the
NECC-Asian Center ESOL program, including curriculum development in
accordance with the MA Department of Education frameworks. He/she will
report to the Director of the NECC Adult Literacy and Transition Program
and work collaboratively with the Asian Center Director. Duties include
but are not limited to: Intake, assessment, follow-up, referrals to
other programs as appropriate; maintain an assessment system to pre and
post test students and evaluate student progress throughout the year;
Collect attendance information from instructors, insure accuracy of
data, and work closely with SMARTT Data Entry Assistant; Oversee and
develop curriculum; Assist instructors in materials, supplies and
textbook selections; organize orders for books and teaching material;
Facilitate teacher meetings and staff development activities; Attend at
least 12 hours of professional development activities per year.
Participate in required general staff meetings, statewide and regional
meetings; Attend relevant DOE, SABES, staff and program development
activities. ADA Coordinator Responsibilities; Observe teaching staff;
support ACMV Counselor; New staff required to attend the SABES New Staff
Orientation; REEP Training, BEST Plus Training. Other duties as assigned
by the Director.
Master's degree in education, counseling, or related field required.
Experience working with adult education programs and adult learner
populations. Ability to develop an integrated ESOL curriculum required.
Familiarity with requirements of ADA and required accommodations
preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Excellent verbal, written
and interpersonal communication skills necessary. Sensitivity to adult
and immigrant learners essential.

Salary is commensurate with experience and background. Pay Grade (4)
Literacy Specialist; anticipated salary range: $42,042 - $60,960 with
full fringe benefits.
