The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Office of
Citizenship, is hosting this meeting to promote volunteerism and
volunteering to serve immigrants. USCIS is seeking attendance to this
meeting from representatives or organizations that facilitate
volunteerism so they may learn about The New Americans Project. The New
Americans Project is an initiative of the Task Force on New Americans
which encourages volunteerism among all Americans, including U.S.
citizens and those who are new to the country.
President George W. Bush established the Task Force in June 2006 in an
effort to strengthen the efforts of federal, state, and local agencies
in providing immigrants the information they need to embrace the common
core of American civic culture, learn English, and fully become
American. The New Americans Project help promote volunteer opportunities
for those interested in helping newcomers adjust to life in the United
States and opportunities for newcomers to get involved in their
communities through volunteer service.
Read more about this initiative in the attached PDF document, and here:

Meeting Objectives:
*Raise awareness of Task Force initiatives, specifically the "New
Americans Project."
*Encourage volunteerism among U.S. citizens and newcomers.
*Encourage community organizations to list available volunteer
opportunities on Volunteer.gov and America's Literacy Directory.
This meeting is a is a follow up to the Task Force on New Americans,
Community and Faith Based Organization Roundtable held in Boston in
June, 2007. The meeting will last approximately one hour, and the media
is being invited. This meeting is open to organizations who are in a
position to promote volunteerism.
No formal RSVP is needed. However you are welcome to inform me if you
are attending so I can inform Mr. Aguilar. Also, let me know if you are
aware of other organizations who may benefit from this event.
You may do so by replying to: ted.albers at dhs.gov
Thank You!
