ESOL Computer Literacy Instructor
Thursday Evenings, 6:00pm-8:30pm plus planning and meeting time
Start date: Some meeting time in August; Classes from September 6, 2007
to June 2008
Job Description
General Statement of Duties
The ESOL Computer Literacy Instructor promotes a student-centered
approach to teaching. This approach enables students to learn what they
want and need to learn. This student-centered approach reflects current
adult learning theory reflected in the ESOL Frameworks. In this
student-centered approach, students are actively involved in their own
education.
Responsibilities/Duties
* Implement the Massachusetts Frameworks for Adult Education in
curriculum planning.
* Develop and document a Computer Literacy curriculum in
collaboration with ESOL Program Coordinator.
* Help students set Computer Literacy goals, monitor goals,
provide strategies and encouragement for students to attain those goals.
* Administer teacher-made assessments.
* Maintain appropriate student records and student portfolios.
* Monitor student attendance; provide follow-up on absences and
report them to the coordinator.
* Select and develop appropriate materials and methods that
encourage student achievement.
* Provide input for planning and participation in program
development activities.
* Collaborate with peers on developing curriculum that meets the
needs of students.
* When needed refer students to counselor.
* Present lesson plans to coordinator.
* Attend monthly staff meetings.
* Attend at least 12 hours of professional development activities
per year.
* Attend 15 hours of New Staff Orientation.
Qualifications:
* BA
* Exceptional computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word, the
Internet, Email, and Graphics
* Experience teaching/tutoring
* Experience working with adult learner and immigrant
populations preferred
* Ability to work as part of an educational team
* Excellent communication skills
Preferred:
* Experience using business software such as MS Office in a
professional environment
* Experience using, customizing and maintaining various versions
of MS Windows
* Ability to set up and perform basic trouble-shooting of computer
hardware
* Ability to implement basic computer security (eg. configure
cookie handling, use anti-virus software, etc.)
* Experience using computers and other technology in a classroom
setting
Salary: $20.39 per hour, approx. 5 hours per week
