Dear Mass Workforce Alliance list:
Workforce development is not doing well in the FY08 Budget process and we need you to make calls today to help turn the tide!
The consolidated House amendments still had a decrease in ABE funding from last year's level prior to the additional Economic Stimulus money. And the House budget has no money for the Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund and not enough money for Career Centers.
Call your State Representative (the main switchboard is 617-722-2000 and you can find information on who your Rep is at http://wheredoivotema.com) and ask him/her to tell Speaker DiMasi that Amendment 1419, the Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund and funds for One Stop Career Centers are one of their top priorities.
And please call your State Senator and urge him/her to tell Senators Murray and Pangiotakis that s/he supports level funding for workforce development. At a minimum, that means:
$32,522,628 for Adult Basic Education (line 7035-0002)
$11,000,000 for Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund
$6,000,000 for One-Stop Career Centers( line 7003-0803)
When you're done with your calls, please write me at deborah at massworkforcealliance.com and tell me what responses you're getting!
Best,
Deborah
