Last night the state legislature passed the Emerging Technology bill and sent
it to Governor Romney. It includes $6,000,000 for “workforce development
and job training services,” with at least $1,000,000 going to non-profit
community based organizations.
The Governor can either sign off on or veto the language about funding
workforce development.
Please call the Governor’s office and leave a message asking him to support
the Workforce Development section of the Emerging Technology Bill. It is
important that these calls be made this week or early next week. You can contact
Governor Mitt Romney at 617-725-4005.
If you call, please (1) give your name and say what city or town you are
calling from. Then (2) say you are calling about the Workforce Development
sections in the Emerging Technology Bill, and (3) ask the Governor to sign the Bill
and keep workforce development funding in the bill.
If you wish to, you can also note one or more of these points about the
workforce development language:
1)this will provide new skills to thousands of people who do not yet have the
skills to make a living in our new economy;
2) this will help Massachusetts employers to meet their hiring and workforce
training needs;
3) this will strengthen our state’s economy;
4) the Governor supports workforce development – this is an opportunity to
demonstrate that support!
Thank you!! Your calls will make a difference!!! We’re close to having
new state funding for workforce development. Please make a call – and then
please ask a colleague to make a call!
It will be really helpful if you email the Mass Workforce Alliance at
massworkforce at aol.com and let us know that you made the call. If you have a
conversation or get any feedback from the person you speak to in the Governor’s
office, please let us know that!
