Advocacy Alert – Call your State Representative & State Senator!
Thanks to the State Senate, to Senator Dianne Wilkerson in particular, and to
calls and letters from people on this email listserv, the Massachusetts
Workforce Alliance has helped develop language for new state funding for skill
training (as one part of an “Emerging Technology bill”).
The current state legislation – which will be made final next week –
includes:
• $6 million in new funds for skill training;
• at least $1 million for community based nonprofits to train low income
and low wage workers;
• grants limited to $200,000, ensuring that several communities and
organizations will benefit.
We are emailing to ask you to make phone calls to your state representative
and state senator to ask them to support this bill. The calls need to be made
Friday and Monday.
Please call your state representative and your state senator and ask them to “
Please support the Senate language for the Emerging Technology bill to
include $6 million for skill training.” Ask them to “contact Conference Committee
members and ask them to support the Senate language for Section 68 of the
Emerging Technology bill.”
To find out the name and phone number of your representative and senator, go
to www.wheredoivotema.com, fill in your home address, then click on “Find My
Election Information.” This will take you to a new screen. Scroll down and
click on the name beside “Senate in General Court” and then the name beside “
Rep in General Court.” This will give you a picture and telephone # for your
senator and your representative.
If you think students you work with would benefit from more funds for skill
training, please call your state representative and state senator today. Then
ask a friend to make the same calls! It will make a difference!
Please let us know how this goes – by sending us an email to
massworkforce at aol.com.
Thank you.
