[MCAEnews] MCAE legislative priorities

	Hi MCAE members and supporters, 

	While MCAE’s top legislative priority remains advocating for $40
million the state ABE line item  7035-0002 for fiscal year 2009 and
for a substantial increase in the Federal ABE  line item that is
currently $574.6 million, we also support some other issues that are 
important to ABE students. 

	MCAE supports the Closing of  Corporate Tax Loopholes and has joined
the Coalition for Tax Fairness. The  Commonwealth of Massachusetts
needs additional revenues if it is to properly  address a number of
issues that impact ABE students, including increasing the  state ABE
line item. 

	MCAE also supports increasing the Citizenship line item  4003-0122
to $2,000,000. This funding is to provide civics education, 
citizenship application assistance, and intensive English classes so
immigrants  can proceed through the naturalization process. 

	MCAE also supports $15,000,000 for  the funding of the Workforce
Competitiveness Trust Fund line  item 7002-1074. This fund was set up
by the 2006 Economic  Stimulus Bill to create a funding source for job
training. Former,  current, and future ABE students might benefit from
