To MCAE members,
Please be advised that the workshop # C5 - Using Songs, Music and Videos in
the Classroom - has been replaced by the following workshop presentation:
Popular Education - Teaching to Real Life Concerns
Susan Hershey, Nancy Goodman - Wellspring House, Inc. Thursday October 28
at 10:15AM to 11:30OAM
Popular education, originally developed by the Brazilian educator, Paolo
Friere, invites students to look critically at the social structure that may
be standing in the way of their success and lean the basic skills they will
need to work toward change. Popular education requires an ongoing dialogue
between teacher and student to allow the teacher to incorporate student
ideas and concerns into the teaching plan. This workshop will present
popular education techniques as used by the faculty of the Foundations
Program (at Wellspring House in Gloucester), an education and training
program for low-income women that qualifies for college credits and
encourages career advancement.
