Conference Booklet and Registration Forms-Arriving Soon at a Mailbox Near
You

Get Ready - - - you will soon receive your very own copy of this year's
Network 2004 conference booklet! As is customary, the booklet will include
not only helpful items like the conference schedule, directions to the
conference site in Fitchburg, and workshop descriptions, but will also
include your registration form for Network 2004. We urge you to fill out
and submit your registration form to the MCAE office as early as you can.
Remember, registration for conference workshops is on a first-come,
first-served basis, so register as soon as you can to ensure getting into
your first choice of workshops. When you do register, we would prefer
receiving your registration form along with your payment at the same time.
However, if you are not able to register in this manner, you can still mail
or fax your form to us at (413) 774-6495, and we will bill you. In either
case, please DO NOT send us duplicate registration forms. Please note that
if you are not a current member of MCAE at the time of conference, you will
be charged for conference registration at the non-member rate unless you
also renew your membership at that time. Also, if our records indicate
that you attended Network 2003 but have not yet submitted your payment, you
will not be allowed to register for Network 2004 until we receive payment.
If you have questions pertaining to your status as a member, or for your
payment history, please contact our office at (413) 774-6455.

Look for Your Awards Nomination Mailing Too

We are not trying to stuff your mailbox with MCAE information, but you
will also soon receive the annual Awards Nomination form. Each year, MCAE
presents awards to people in the Adult Education field for their outstanding
work throughout the previous year. You, our members, have the important
task of helping us choose qualified candidates from the large selection of
deserving peers. We ask you to submit candidates for the various categories
of awards to be given at this year's conference. When you receive your
nomination forms, please take the time to consider those persons that you
feel may deserve your positive comments. The deadline for returning your
nomination forms to us is September 30, 2004. You are welcome to mail or
fax your comments to MCAE at 50 Miles Street, Greenfield, MA 01031, (413)
774-6495.

Voter Education, Registration and Action Campaign (VERA) - A Great
Service!

The 2004 elections are a teachable moment with high stakes outcomes for
low-income people in the United States. That is why you should know about
VERA! The Voter Education, Registration, and Action campaign 2004 (VERA 04)
is a non-partisan effort aimed at adult literacy learners and program staff
in the New England states. Its goal is to educate adult learners about
voting and the topical electoral issues, and then mobilize them to vote in
the 2004 elections. With less than 3 months to election day, the
Massachusetts VERA Task Force has been successful at registering 28
Massachusetts ABE programs to participate in the 2004 campaign. You too can
help adult learners take informed action in order to make a positive
difference in their lives and communities. To register your program or class
in the VERA campaign, log on at www.nelrc.org/VERA today!

  MCAE Scholarship Deadline Approaches

The Sissy Guadet Memorial Scholarship is now available for GED graduates
from a recognized ABE Program in Massachusetts. If you are a GED graduate,
or know of one, who is planning to go on to a post-secondary program, and is
qualified to receive this award, please send an application to MCAE as soon
as you can. The deadline for submission is Friday, September 3, 2004 at
5:00PM. The application is available at the MCAE web page at
http://www.mcae.net/pages/Scholarships/Appl%20&%20Crit%2004.pdf . Fax or
mail your form to MCAE by the above deadline if you are interested.

Conference Networking Reception Is Back - And We've Added Raffles, Too.

After taking a year off, MCAE will again host the Networking Reception on
Wednesday, October 27th immediately following the last workshop. Please
join us in the hotel restaurant for refreshments, networking and our first
raffle. You must be present to win either airline vouchers or a hotel
package. Don't forget to sign up for the reception on your registration
form. The Remainder of the raffle prizes will be awarded to Thursday,
October 28th at the Annual Awards Luncheon. You are not required to be
present to win on Thursday, but you have to buy a raffle ticket to win
anything. Tickets will be available only at conference throughout the day.
Check out the MCAE web page soon for a complete list of great prizes and
other useful information about Network 2004!
