Hello everyone,
I've been hoping/meaning to participate in this opportunity for years, am
excited to think that it might really happen this time!
I (along with a small but dedicated group who've been scheming for years
now) have been preparing to pilot a distance learning course -- by some
definitions a hybrid course --
Students will be based in Dakar, Senegal (French and Wolof speakers), with
access to a small computer lab there in Dakar. They will have Senegalese
teachers there, but also two or more times per week will have synchronous
class time with me (I'll be in Charlottesville VA). And two or three times a
year I hope to visit in person -- so there will be some f2f contact.
Our first pilot class groups will be one group of 20 to 25 students studying
TOEFL prep (in hopes of coming to the US -- probably TX -- to attend
university in the USA)
AND another group of 20 to 25 high-intermediate to advanced level students
(young adults, primarily).
I use Moodles (interactive course management systems) for the classes.
I saw this post from Christine George: <<My name is Christine George, and I
teach French at the Jefferson County IB School , a high school in
Birmingham, Alabama, USA. I would like to match my French 3 class with a
class that is learning English in a French speaking country, if possible.
My students are 16-17 years old. I actually have two French 3 classes, but
we could work with just one if necessary. >>
and wondered if we might be a possible match, BUT must stress that I will
not have more definite info on class start dates, etc. until December.
Hope to incorporate communications with others as an assignment --
perhaps weekly or biweekly, beginning in late January 2008?
Holly
