Hello International Community Virtual Visit Colleagues,

Welcome to those who have newly joined the project, and to those who
have been involved in the past. If you haven't done so yet, please
introduce yourself now. See below for more information.

This year we have some great new features:

• You can use a wiki web page we are creating now, and we will be
available to help you with the technical stuff of how to add text,
images and files. You and your students, because it's a wiki, can
easily and quickly add to your class wiki web page. No matter if you
have never used a wiki (or never heard of one) . You will soon be
comfortable, then you'll quickly be an expert! You can see -- and add
to --
the work in progress at the wiki. You'll find the ICVV Wiki at:
http://tinyurl.com/mqcx7

• We will also explain how your classes can talk with each other for
free using Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) -- if you can overcome
the challenge of finding a mutually convenient time. You could even
arrange a free conference call so that more than one class, and we,
could join you.

• Some classes this year might choose to use wikimapia, a web page
with a map of the world that allows you to easily zoom down to the
rooftop level of your community and label and describe geographical
and built environment features which your students think are
important. Your students can describe their community to the class
with which you are matched, and they can describe their community,
building by building, street by street, river by river, lake by lake.
There
is more information on this at the ICVV Wiki.

Now it's time to introduce yourself. Please send an email to
icvv at lists.literacytent.org indicating:

• why you are interested in the classroom/school virtual visit project
• who your students are
• where you are located (country and city/town)
• what kind of students you are looking for (if adults, what level
of English or other skills, or if kids, what grade level and level
     of English skills) and
• if you know, what you hope to do this year:
	• have students exchange email
	• discuss a movie both classes have watched or a book they have
             both read
	• describe their class/school and community
	• discuss a certain topic of interest, or
• something else.

If you have participated in the past, in your introduction tell us
what some of the highlights and challenges were.

All the best,

David
