Hello everyone,
I want to invite GLC members to be involved in a
strategic planning session this Friday, July 16th from
10am-12pm. Thank you to Nell Eckersley and Paul Jurmo
for making this happen.
GLC Strategic Planning Session
Friday, July 16th, 10am-12pm
at The Fortune Society (53 W. 23rd St., 7th floor,
between 5th and 6th Aves.)
212.691.7554 x.702
We hope to see you there. Nell has asked that you
consider the following. . .
"I think the meeting should include a long hard look
at what we want to have happen in the long haul and
the strategic steps we need to make to get there.
Certainly things will come up along the way that we
will want to act on in that moment, but I think we
need to be clear on our overarching set of goals too.
In the short term this means figuring out Literacy
Summer 2004 and the workshops we are going to have.
But this might fit into the long term goal of
supporting the creation of a viable and active student
organization/local chapter of VALUE/reinvigorated
SALU. And that might fit into the long term goal of
getting issues regarding adult literacy onto the lips
of the general public....causing adult literacy to
become a plank in political platforms for the NEXT
presidential election etc, etc...
So some preliminary questions I would suggest are:
What are our end goals and what are the steps to get
there? (increasing funding? building and supporting
student activism? making the funding more
transparents? changes in assessment and reporting
methods? etc)
Who are our allies and who should be our allies? How
do we go about creating and supporting these
relationships?
What do we want to get done by July 2005? Leadership
conferences? Workshops? Documents?
What do we want to have done by July 2010? 2015?"
