Dear Colleagues:

The following emails describe three resources that offer opportunities
for reading and publishing adult student writings. The first email
provides information on Issues 1 and 2 of Women's Perspectives, an
annual publication of the women and literacy organization WE LEARN. The
second email is a call for student writings for the next issue of The
Change Agent, an adult education newspaper that focuses on social
justice issues (http://www.nelrc.org/changeagent/).

Best,
Ira

Issue 1 of Women's Perspectives: Women's Health and Wellness features
55 writings by ABE/ESL students on the theme of women's health. The
complete version is now available in pdf for download from the WE LEARN
website: http://www.litwomen.org/perspectives.html

Women's Perspectives #2: Women Who Dare ~ Daily Steps to Big
Accomplishments will be available on March 9 at the WE LEARN Conference
during the Celebration of Student Writing
[http://www.litwomen.org/conference.html].

Women's Perspectives showcases writings by adult literacy/basic
education students across all levels. These collections provide a forum
for ABE learners to consider and further their knowledge about a variety
of issues relative to women's experiences that continue to impact their
lives. We hope these collections will not only encourage students to
reflect and write but to also learn from the each other through their
stories and opinions.

This is an annual WE LEARN publication.

Special Call for Student Writings on Voting For The Change Agent

We are interested in hearing from adult learners who voted in the
November 2006 elections. Write to us about your experience with voting
in the recent elections. The writings will be considered for the March
2008 issue of The Change Agent journal. It will be a special edition on
Voting and Advocacy that aims to help adult educators and learners to
become active advocates and informed voters.

Questions:

o What was your voting experience like?

o If you voted for the first time, what motivated you to vote?

o Why do you think voting is important?

All articles must be received by March 31, 2007. All articles will be
considered. They must be typed. Suggested length is 500-1,200 words.
Final decisions are made by The Change Agent editorial board. A stipend
of $50 will be paid to each adult education student whose work is
accepted for publication in this issue.
