[GLC] Immigrant Opportunities Initiative June 2nd 11am City Hall

Hi all,

There will be a press conference on the steps of City Hall on June 2nd at
11am, and we need to be there to show our support on numbers!  

 

City Council is proposing $10 million dollars for the Immigrant
Opportunities Initiative to fund legal services and ESOL programming.  

 

Some of you already receive funding for legal services and or EL/Civics
through an earlier version of this funding.  The 10 million being proposed
is a huge increase and would not only increase the funding going to existing
recipients, but also expand and allow new groups to get funding.  

 

Many of you were at the hearing/meeting last week before the immigrant
affairs committee.  The next step in securing this funding is to have at
least 300 people come to the Press Conference with banners and signs saying
what programs are present and what we want.  In this time of great threat to
our programs, this is a very important local action.

 

Please spread the word. Attached is a flyer.  If you can come, please
contact Madeleine Wilcox at the New York Immigration Coalition (212)
627-2227 extension 229, so the organizers can have a sense of how many
people to expect.  

 

And don't forget to bring those banners and signs :-)
