[GLC] final push for the Immigrant Opportunities Initiative

Hi everyone,

 

Sorry for the continual stream of e-mail, but we're getting close to the end
now.  Again, thanks for all the great work you've been doing on all the
funding issues that are going on.  

 

Regarding the work we've been doing to get $10 million put in the city
budget for the Immigrant Opportunities Initiative-below are some requests
from the New York Immigration Coalition-

1. first about a sign on letter to the Mayor and to Council Speaker Gifford
Miller (see attached) and then 

2. a reminder to contact your local council members ASAP (talking points
attached) and handing out flyers.

 

Also below is a schedule of the City Council's budget process.  As you can
see time is of the essence.

Hi.  Please read the attached letters to Speaker Miller and Mayor Bloomberg
regarding the Immigrant Opportunities Initiative.   I hope your organization
can sign on.

Please fax back the response form as soon as possible.  The deadline is at
noon on Tuesday, June 14th.  Our goal is to collect at least 100 sign ons.
Please circulate widely.

Hi.  Thanks again for making the IOI press conference such a huge success!!
All of you are amazing and the turnout was unbelievable!  

 

I am very sorry for those who attempted to participate but were left outside
the gate-- but you should be aware that we did give a special shout out to
all of you!  We appreciate your participation and please know that your
presence made all the difference and because of your efforts the IOI is
going strong!

 

But we still have lots more to do.  Budget negotiations have started and we
don't have much time.

 

1)  Please reach out to your council member and remind him/her that IOI is a
top priority in your community.  Especially Comrie, DeBlasio, Quinn, Reed,
Clarke, Felder, Sears, Gioia!

 

2)  Pick a day where you can bring down students and hand out IOI flyers
(last year JCH Bensonhurst brought down a group and one student actually
gave Mayor Bloomberg an IOI flyer!!)  This could also be a fun
activity--"find your councilmember!"  We especially need people during the
times listed below.  If you can organize a small group or go down solo
please let me know ASAP.

 

If you have other suggestions please let me know.  In the meanwhile, GO
TEAM!!!
