[GLC] IOI Press Conference THANK YOU!!

Hi all,

 

Great turnout today at City Hall!  See note below from the people at the New
York Immigration Coalition.

 

The decision on this $10 million will take place in the next few weeks, so
this is a very important time to contact your local City Council members and
urge them to support this funding for Immigrant Opportunities Initiative at
$10 million.  If you need talking points let me know and I can give you some
background information on the initiative.

HI Everyone,

 

I want to say a big, gigantic thank you to all of you for coming out today
and making the press conference a success!  The signs and banners, the
letters, the speakers were amazing! And please tell your students, teachers,
clients and friends thanks too!  You guys were what made it work and get the
attention of the council members!  

 

Here are the Council Members that are supporting IOI (as seen on the big
pledge):

Perkins, Fidler, Brewer, Quinn, Moskowitz, Gerson, James, Gennaro, Rivera,
Martinez, Monserrate, Palma, Jackson, Weprin

Council Members James, Martinez and Monserrate spoke, and when Council
Members Jackson and Weprin spoke, they signed on to IOI!!  Definitely give
your Council member a call if he/she is not on the list and remind them of
our event today!

 

The turnout was so incredible and totally exceeded our wildest expectations,
but unfortunately that meant some of you and your groups weren't allowed in.
I'm so sorry about that and I can't imagine how disappointing it must have
been standing outside the gates.  We had no idea security was going to limit
entry like that!  The guards did tell me that this was in the top five press
conferences they had ever seen!

 

So finally, thank you again for making the press conference so successful,
the Immigrant Opportunities Initiative is going strong thanks to your
efforts!  We'll be touch!
