Hi All,
Good job everyone! On the City level all our hard work seems to have paid
off very well. The Immigrant Opportunities Initiative (IOI) has reportedly
been funded at $7.316 million. This plus the Mayor's 1.8 million for Family
Literacy, and $335,000 for ESOL and citizenship classes at senior centers,
brings the total pot to $9.451 million, a significant increase from last
year's $2.8 for IOI and $335,000 for senior ESOL.
But wait.how is this money going to get out to our programs?
So far there is no RFP process for this additional funding, and because of
time-- there probably won't be one this year. So the suggestion is to write
letters to
A) Miguel Martinez and Kendall Stewart-both of whom have been heading up
the Immigrant Committee on City Council, and
B) the City Council members who represent the districts that your
clients come from,
and let them know how you would better serve the immigrant community with
expanded funding. Remember IOI is earmarked for ESOL, legal service for
immigrant workers and citizenship complications, and ESOL and citizenship
classes for seniors.

Good luck to us all!
