Dear friends,
I hope that you are well and get to enjoy this holiday season.
There is much to do to make this city and world a better place.
We are facing many attacks on our freedoms and economic life. Your
efforts and those of so many others in the fight for justice deserve
praise and some reflection for the battles ahead of us.
In January, the Grassroots Literacy Coalition and
Students of Adult Literacy United will be campaigning
to get N.Y. City Council to pass
the "New York Bill of Rights for Adult Education."
We need your support!
We will also be pushing forward on building strong
student committees in every adult education and
literacy program. With adult education programs
vulnerable and considered dispensable, student
organizing is essential. Maria Queroga, a long-time
fighter in our field has said, "The problem with the
literacy community is that it is too quiet."
We hope to remedy this problem.
The next coalition meeting is January 24th, at 6:30 PM,
but contact us before that - to push these efforts forward.
Looking forward to the New Year and to working with you.
Sincerely,
David Greene
